CRAMPED???

A twin mattress, a crib, a dresser, and a rocking chair = CRAMPED!!!!

Luke has been sleeping on the crib mattress on the floor. Lily was getting too big for the bassinet and we needed to get her into the crib. So we got Luke a twin mattress to sleep on. He loved it!!

It was bigger and more bouncy than the crib mattress. He was in heaven. Needless to say, it is quite cramped in the room. We are really looking forward to getting the basement finished by the end of July so that we can move Luke to a downstairs bedroom!!

Here's Luke's reaction. The dancing is for you Doreen and Julie. (don't mind Lily crying in the background)

Luke

Luke is at such a fun age right now. He is learning so much everyday! He's just discovered garbage cans and garbage trucks and loves them both! When I take him jogging in the stroller he can spot a garbage can from a mile away and repeats over and over "garbage cans, garbage cans". He is our little parrot and will repeat EVERYTHING I say. Sometimes it's kind of funny. He is such a happy boy and he loves being outside or downstairs.
If something is out of place he will let you know! If the toilet lid is up or a door is open that we usually keep closed, or if he sees something within his reach that he knows he's not supposed to play with, he will point at it and say, "OHHH, OHHH, OHHHH" until you put things back the way it's supposed to go. He LOVES ketchup and will most anything with ketchup on it. I love playing with him each day, he's just so much fun!

Lily at 2 1/2 months

Last week we found out Lily had a double ear infection and blisters in her throat. My poor baby! I thought she was just a little cranky. She is getting so big! Here's how she measures up:
Length- 21.7 inches = 9%
Weight- 9.7 lbs = 9%
Head Circumference- 14.8 inches = 7%
Here are a few facts about Lily. She loves, loves, loves her Binky. She loves to be snuggled in a blanket and held close to your chest with her Binky. She loves to be talked to, especially in silly voices. Just ask Julie (aka Minnie Mouse "Oh boy! A phone call"). She is usually very warm. She smiles and coos. She hates having her temp taken and taking her antibiotics. However, she loves Tylenol (it must be the grape flavoring). She is such a good baby. So sweet and mild mannered (hopefully that lasts). She really is our little miracle and everyday I am so thankful that she is so healthy.

Flash Back Friday

I've seen some other blogs where they have done this. And I thought I would give it a try.

Backpacking Through Berlin, July 3rd- 5th 2003.....what were we thinking??

My dear friend, Shannee, was being a nanny for her aunt in Denmark. So during summer break from college I went and visited her for 4 weeks. On a whim, we decided to backpack through Berlin. So an hour later with nothing but our backpacks we were on a bus headed for Berlin.

We got off the bus at 6am the next morning. Neither of us spoke a word of German, we didn't have a clue where we were, we didn't have a map, and didn't have any Euro (they use Kroner in Denmark). We were just two 20 year old girls with a sense of adventure.

We couldn't find a money exchange to buy a map so we just started walking. We ended up walking about 20 miles that first day (we calculated this after with the map). We saw tons of amazing statues along the way. On a couple of statues we climbed up on them to take pictures (notice Shannee in pink in the second picture, riding one of the statues, click on the picture to enlarge it. It's hilarious! Her hair is even blowing in the wind!). Later we found out this is very illegal and we could have been put in jail. Gulp

We finally found info and a money exchange. We ate from street vendors and the bakery. That night we stayed in a Co-ed hostel. We slept with one eye open, if you know what I mean. The next day we went on a walking tour and figured out how to use the Underground.

"U is for Underground, that is obvious" (that's for you Shannee)

Looking back it seems surreal.

It was a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget and I loved every minute of it.

But really, what were we thinking? We could have been mugged, kidnapped, put in jail or a number of other things?? But it was fun while it lasted!

Five Things I Look Forward To Each Day

1) Snuggling up next to Kent and laying my head on his chest each night before I fall asleep.

2) The sound of the garage door opening. "Daaadeeee" is home!! Luke is excited to see his daddy, and I get a hug and kiss. What more could I ask for?

3) Watching the "Price Is Right". It's pretty sad when I have a favorite model (Rachel), I know when one of the models is on vacation, or if one of them gets a haircut (Gabrielle cut bangs- I hate the bangs and she's my least favorite model (she looks plastic). Obsessed? Perhaps. I really don't watch that much TV, just Price Is Right at 9am and The Brady Bunch at 5:30pm while I'm waiting for Kent to come home. I'm a nerd, what can I say.

4) The sound of Luke giggling. Usually it's when I am saying in a silly voice, "Come a little closer, says the Spider to the Fly" while I'm motioning with my finger. When Luke finally gets close enough, I tickle him until he can't breath. Then I let him go, he runs just out of my reach and waits for me to say it again.

5) My morning or evening run. It allows me time to think, have some alone time, and after I go, I really feel like I've challenged myself and accomplished something (besides keeping my two babies fed and their diapers changed)

Lily's Blessing Day

Lily was blessed on June 1st, 2008. Kent's mom made her this gorgeous blessing dress. It turned out exactly as I had wanted it. She did an amazing job and everyone loved the dress. Thanks Kathleen!!

Thank you to all of our family for coming, helping out with the luncheon, and supporting us on Lily's special day!

Here is Luke on Lily's blessing day. Kent put one of his ties on him, and Luke just loved it. So he's wearing his daddy's tie and to complete the picture his pants and shirt are too big for him! He looks so grown up. I guess he's not my little baby anymore.

A Few Things You Might Not Know About Me...

This is for you Jules:
1. I wear a retainer at night- or at least I am supposed to. It only happens about once or twice a month.
2. I have a serious addiction to chap stick and lotion- much to my husband's dismay (I think this drives him crazy)
3. I love, love, love ... long, hot showers. How hot? Let's just say, if you get out of the shower and your skin is all red, then you know it was a good shower! I know this drives my husband crazy- sorry Honey!
4. We LOVE root beer floats at our house. I think it might even be past the point of love. We have them about twice a week, sometimes more. (no wonder why I can't loose that extra 20lbs)
5. I eat Vanilla Wafers like it's no body's business. I buy them in bulk from Costco. I call them crackers, "Luke, do you want a cracker?" Honestly folks, they're cookies and they shouldn't be a snack...tell that to my taste buds. (refer back to the 20lbs from #4)
6. I love to go jogging in the evening. It's a wonderful way to wind down at night.
7. My nickname is "Spider". My family gave it to me when I was born (long arms and legs, dark hair). However, I am terrified of spiders. I can handle a Daddy Long Legs, but at my house I get HUGE, Black, FURRY ones. Sometimes they're so big you can't use a tissue, you have to use a shoe. YUCK!!!! My wonderful husband kills them for me...Thank you Honey!
8. I love to spend money at Gymboree. I love the quality of clothes. However, they're so expensive so I shop the clearance rack and buy them for the next year.
9. Often times I speak before my brain has time to register what I am saying. This gets me in trouble a lot. "I'm so dee-vasted" (that's for you Stephen)
A man in Austria, "Do you speak English?"
me- "Yes! Do you? ....I mean....where are you from?"
Yes folks this is my natural color.
Or I speak my mind way too often. The Layton's are still getting used to me and it's been four years.
10. I can't get enough of Europe. 6 weeks, 8 European countries and I am begging for more.
