Luke at 22 Months

My little boy is just that...a boy! He's not a baby anymore. Here is Luke at 22 months. His hair pretty much describes his attitude lately...wild and crazy!! He has just started to do little stinker stuff that 2 year old does. My pediatrician said the best thing you can do is ignore it...yeah right!

Like every other kid, Luke has his moments. But for the most part, he is such a joy to have around, always making us laugh. Luke loves music and dancing. He always gets up and dances at the end of Jeopardy and Price Is Right. And yes, those are his favorite shows. I tried to get him to watch a cartoon instead of Price Is Right this morning, but he just kept asking for his "show". He loves Wheel of Fortune also and he is really good at repeating the letters that the contestants call.

Luke loves Clementine oranges and often times, this is how we get him to eat his dinner. If he takes a bite of dinner we give him a slice. It works every time.

Some other things Luke is doing:

He LOVES motorcycles, trucks and trains. He is a lot of fun on the freeway!

Loves to brush his teeth. Repeats the last two words of EVERYTHING I say (sometimes my sister Julie calls me just so she can laugh at Luke repeating me!). He wakes up between 6-6:30am and comes into our room and hides next to my nightstand, trying to be real quiet. Luke LOVES to be outside and especially in the hiking backpack. He loves music and actions. His favorite songs are: Itsy Bitsy Spider and Baby Bumble Bee. He no longer has his stinky animals!! (He used to suck/ chew on A) a monkey's arm, B) a squirrel's tail, or C) a Bear's arm and they would STINK and they were SLIMY!!). Now he sleeps with George, an over sized teddy bear, on his head. He can kick and run with the soccer ball. And he loves to play catch. He just discovered that kisses make a sound. So now when he gives you a kiss he always makes a big exaggerated sound (it's SO cute!).

I could go on for days about Luke!! We just love him so much

Little Lady Lily

Lily is growing up so fast! It seems like just yesterday we brought her home from the hospital. Lily has been the best baby. She is always so happy and smiling. She's very interactive and loves to be talked to. Lily still loves to suck her Binky and her thumb. Occasionally, she will stick out her bottom lip really far and pull the cutest little pouting face. (I think her aunt Hollie taught her that)

Lately Lily sleeps with the blankets pulled over her head. This always scares me. As tight as I swaddle her, and as many times as I pull the blankets off, they always end up back over her head. So now, I place a burp cloth over her eyes. This way she thinks it's over her head, but her nose isn't covered. I am tempted to make her a little eye mask to sleep with. Luke used to do the same thing, but he grew out of it. Hopefully Lily will too!

Luke's New Toy

Luke loves to play outside, but he get bored really fast. So we decided to get him to something to play on. For the first couple of days we had it in the house and it would entertain him quite well. After moving it outside, he played with it a little, but he mostly just wanted to explore other things. And then, when he was inside he would just beg to play with his slide. So needless to say, the slide is now inside, in our entryway. It makes for a real conversation starter when someone comes over. But no need to fear. At the end of July, when the basement is finished, it will be relocated to the toy room in the basement. Until then, you are welcome to try the slide when you come to visit!

Where's Luke....I Know I put him to bed???

If you look closely you will see Luke's little arms peeking out from underneath George. Each night it is a little treat to see how Luke is sleeping. He is always in crazy positions and usually snuggled up next to George. This is the first time I have dared to take a picture. I don't want to take the risk of waking him up (you've heard the saying..."Don't wake a sleeping dragon").

Who is George??

For those of you who don't know. I got George for my 12th birthday from my sister Doreen (thanks again Doreen). I slept with him every night until I got married. (that's when I got a real live snugly Teddy bear named Kent) I wasn't obsessed or anything. George never went on sleepovers, he was just like a body pillow with arms. When I got home from my honeymoon, I went to get the rest of my belongings from my mom's and found this note on George:

"Dear Heidi LAYTON

Thanks A LOT!!! I really wanted to go to Hawaii too... but NOOOOOO! You left me at Mom's house! We're fighting!!

-George"

I am pretty certain it was my sister Norma who wrote the note. But George went into a box and that is where he stayed until Luke found him about 4 months ago. Luke latched onto him and hasn't looked back. He loves him and sleeps with him every night. Sometimes when Luke won't do things like get dressed or let me put his shoes on, I talk like a bear and pretend like it is George talking to him. It always works. So thanks again Doreen. George is still being loved!

A New Addition To Our Family!!

I am certain everyone is wondering: "Is Heidi Pregnant?" or "Did Kent finally lose his marbles and let Heidi get a kitten?" or "Did Heidi actually get the Honda minivan she's been dreaming about?"


It's none of the above, but oh, it's good!! Today.....We....Got.....Direct TV and DVR!!! Yes, we finally broke down and got it. Now Kent isn't running down to the basement during commercials and running back up for his program (Wipe out and I Survived a Japanese Game Show)-however, it was great exercise for him. I don't have to holler down the stairs "Honey, your show is back on!!" But hollering down the stairs did bring back a lot of great childhood memories. Growing up, our house was small, so if you needed someone downstairs, you would just holler at them, "Dooorrreeen tellllllephooooone!"


I didn't realize how much we were living in the stone age until I was talking to my sister Hollie. I told her that we were getting direct TV and DVR and she replied, "well what were you using before now?" I told her we only got the regular channels from antenna, and she said, "OH, really?"


I already have about 6 shows programed to record. Just the important shows like: Wheel of Fortune, Price is Right, Wipe out, I Survived a Japanese Game Show, Nancy Drew-the movie. And I can't wait to record the Olympics!!! (I missed the swimming trials last Sunday) I'm not really excited about the new channels, just the DVR and being able to watch all of the BYU football games this year!!


The best part: my DVR doesn't whine at me, it doesn't wake me up at 1:00 am, 3:00am, 5:00am, and 7:00am, (that was Lily last night-isn't she sweet!) However, like everything else in the world, it does cost me money each month. Oh well, I guess that is the price we pay for luxuries!
